Under the auspices of Baseball for Good and ISG Baseball, Ukraine coaches and players forged forward in their efforts to grow their game no matter what the surrounding difficulties were.
From April 3 to April 5, the usually quiet grounds of the children’s health camp Chaika transformed into the energetic heart of Ukrainian youth baseball. For the first time ever, the AllUkrainian “Schley Cup” tournament brought together U12 and U15 teams from across the country, marking a milestone not only for the young athletes but for the sport’s growth in Ukraine.
The tournament honors American philanthropist Evander Schley, whose support helped build the very baseball field at Chaika where the competition unfolded. His contributions have created more than a sports venue — they have generated a place where young Ukraine players can chase big dreams.
Eight teams competed across two age groups, and the atmosphere was electric. In the U12 division, the Youth Sports School “Darnytsia” from Kyiv delivered a standout performance, claiming the championship title. They were followed by the Little League team “QUEENS” from the Kyiv region, with PATRIOTS from Kropyvnytskyi taking third and the Bad Boys finishing fourth.
The U15 division showcased equally fierce competition. The PATRIOTS secured a confident first place, followed by the City Devils, also from Kropyvnytskyi. The Youth Sports School “Darnytsia” earned third place, and the Olympic Youth Sports School rounded out the top four.
The event was supported by the Baseball and Softball Federation of Ukraine, led by President Stanislav Somotov, Vice President Eugene Tkachenko, and the Baseball For Good & ISG Baseball — longtime partners who continue to strengthen the sport’s foundation nationwide.
For “Darnytsia,” the celebration didn’t end with the U12 championship trophy. Several players earned individual honors that highlighted their skill and dedication:
· Anton Havrylenko – MVP
· Maksym Klapkiv – Best Batter
· Mark Klapkiv – Best Team Player
·
Their achievements reflect not only personal talent but the hard work of their coaches and the growing excellence of the program.
The inaugural Schley Cup became more than a tournament — it became a symbol of community, opportunity, and the bright future of Ukrainian baseball. And for the young athletes who stepped onto the field at Chaika, it was a weekend they’ll carry with them for years.
